Dear Colleagues, Some notes from our meeting on Wednesday evening. MARK-IT EVENTS The Mark-It event on July 7th was cancelled due to heavy rain. The next event is on Saturday 4th August in Romford Market. BIKE WEEK Terry did contact Amandeep regarding help for the Council's Upminster ride on 21st June but it not needed and we had positive feedback from those who took part. PEDALLING INTO THE PAST The council are planning a significant event (of between 5-10,000 participants) to take place on 15 September in Hornchurch County Park. It was agreed that we should organise an information stand and will support the ride if required. Amandeep had provided this description: "Pedalling into the Past is a family fun festival in Hornchurch Country Park, taking place on the Saturday 15th September. The event is a celebration of the Park: learn its RAF history; see its rich diversity of wildlife; and try-out cycling on the 12 mile walking/cycle/equestrian route that passes through it. Everyone is welcome to the event. There will be many activities for all ages to take part in; fancy practising cycle polo or trying archery? Kids can take part in a pedal powered disco, learn bush craft skills and even meet some Alpacas! Young adults may be interested in watching a BMX stunt team! Cycle to the event and have a mechanic look at your bike for free, you can also have your bike security marked by the police. The event is located near the Squadrons Approach entrance to the park, starts at 12 noon and closes at 5 pm." CLG Philip reported that: 1) The Cycle Training leaflets are now available and we have some to distribute at our street stalls. 2) The ramp connecting the bridge over the Eurostar Rail link with Rainham marshes is not yet officially open though people are using it since somebody broke down the gates. 3) Petits Lane roundabout scheme - We believe this has been shelved. 4) Roneo Corner proposals - A site survey is under way and draft proposals will be circuilated. 5) A12 crossing - This is shown on the TFL map as a "Dismount" section though it is difficult to see because of its short length. 6) Romford Ring Road - A plan had been circulated but this was a High-level design. Daniel Douglas wil bring detailed plans to the next CLG. 7) Cycle Lane Widths - David Garfield is pressing for the minimum width to be set at 2m. CROSSRAIL Will they allow bikes on Crossrail? Ray and Philip had responded to say that Crossrail had intended to ban cycles from the deep-level sections but that the CTC are fighting this. ROAD CALMING MEASURES IN HAVERING ATTE BOWER Philip had complained about the new-style Pinch Points used to slow down the traffic through the village in that they do not have cycle by-pass lanes as previously and that they force cyclists into contention with on-coming motor traffic, particularly when on the up-hill sections. Mark Philpotts has drawn up plans to address the issues by providing by-pass lanes in all but one instance. Well done Philip! LOCAL GROUPS FORUM Ray had attended a meeting at LCC HQ and reported that the LCC is holding a Campaign Conference on 8 September to agree what our campaigning themes will be for 2013 and 2014. Please come forward with your ideas! OLYMPIC LED RIDES There are still some unled rides from Beckton to Stratford. LEAFLET DISTRIBUTION Terry will resend the tracking sheet for leafleteers to record what has been left where. GOOGLE MAPS There is now a Cycle Route Button on Google Maps. If you have seen this already, you'll know that the routes are not ideal but there is a facility to comment and suggest improvements - so let's feed our comments back as this is such a useful and easily accessible tool. Date of Next Meeting Due to the summer holidays, the next meeting is planned for 19 September at 8.00 pm outside the NALGO club. As always, see the web site at www.haveringcyclists.org for the latest news. Please feel free to add or correct my notes as appropriate. Best regards Terry
