Dear Fellow Cyclists, Here are notes from our campaign meeting on 12th April. CARGO BIKE The first set of artwork to sign-write the box was ordered and applied. Agreed that for now we will use the white on black stickers on the side, one coloured on white at the back and order a new coloured on white sticker for the front. Terry will order. Also, we need a clear cover to protect the leaflets set out on the lid in the event of inclement weather. Terry will order. EASTBROOKEND COUNTRY FAIR We will be supporting this event on 7 June with an information stand (based on the cargo bike). We are working with Colin from Barking and Dagenham and the event will be close by the Millenium Centre. Any help in staffing the stall will be welcome on the day even if only for an hour so that others can take a break. NCN ANNIVERSARY RIDE The 20th anniversary ride for the NCN is planned for Sunday 19th July and the paperwork and permissions were completed by Jeff. Ray will organise publicity pending what comes from Sustrans (expected shortly). As a reminder, it was previously agreed that the ride will start at 10.00, follow the whole of route 136 starting at Noak Hill and ending at the Thames with an added excursion to the RSPB. There will be stages so that people can join en-route. BRETONS BRIDGE The opening ceremony of what will be known as Cullens Bridge is to be on 28 April though the arrangements are still unclear and this is of concern given how little time remains. The timing is designed to coincide with the 80th birthday of well-known local rambler and campaigner Mike Cullen. We all agreed that this was very fitting. Terry will contact Tom King to find out if arrangements are in hand. INGREBOURNE VALLEY VISITORS CENTRE We expect to support the grand opening ceremony on 3rd October. ROUTE 136 SIGNAGE Following the full site audit and report, we await news. Jeff has prompted Sustrans for an update. HAVERING BIKE-IT RIDE 24 (?) JUNE The ride is still in the planning stage and we await further details. Terry will check with Tom King for any updates. BIKE-IT U CAN 2 Terry will check with Tom for any news of the this initiative. LCC POLICY CHANGES Ray had responded to some points of LCC policy and had proposed amendments. These were supported. CYCLE OFFICER POST The post is being re-advertised as there were no suitable candidates at the first attempt. SPACE FOR CYCLING We have made good progress in lifting the share of the total vote (Havering vs. the whole of London) from 0.9% to 2% but we need many more signatures to make an impact. We continue to take petition sheets to any and all events, clubs, societies and places of work but we also await the LCC group meeting on 28/4 to see if there is to be a firm end date. SHOPPER PARKING BAYS Terry proposed that we approach Havering Council to ask that a condition of use for shopper parking bays be instigated that users park in the direction of travel. This is to avoid vehicles having to pull out almost the full width of their vehicle before they can see if the way is clear which is a hazard for all road-users and especially cyclists. Terry will make this proposal in response to a consultation on bus stops which also impacts the parking bays. Ray will also raise this at the LCC group meeting. PUBLIC CYCLE PUMP AT UPMINSTER Matt observed that this is not working. Terry will report it. MATERIALS Ray has obtained the GLA Cycling Guide/maps and Jeff has ordered six Sustrans Tee shirts. We do not feel the LCC jackets are good value so we'll make do with the tabards. Terry will order more goody bags (plastic?) and S4C stickers. AOB Jeff had attended the Lorry Drivers' safety training which forms part of the HGV license refresher training. He said it was instructive to understand how little of the road close by the lorry that the driver can see. John noted that the pathway in Hornchurch Country Park was being widened or at least the encroaching grass was being cut back. do we know how much of the path is to be addressed? Terry will make enquiries. Date Of Next Meeting is planned for MONDAY 11 May at JJ Moons PH in High Street Hornchurch. (Just look out for the table showing the red Space For Cycling flags). As always, see the web site at www.haveringcyclists.org for the latest news. Please feel free to add or correct my notes as appropriate. Regards Terry
