Dear All, These are notes from our meeting of 11 August 2014. ROUTE 136 SIGNAGE We are trying to have two hazards signed in Hornchurch Country Park :- 1) We are obtaining signs warning of the steep hill and suggesting a diversion to avoid it. The council will have to erect them. 2) Diversion signs in case of flooding of the lowest section directing cyclists to Suttons Lane. This will be raised at the next CLG. CLG REPORT The next CLG is on 24 August. We need to check progress on the Quietways Programme. Cllr Robert Benham is to continue as Cycling Champion. CROW LANE CONSULTATION Traffic calming is normally a good thing for cyclists but this scheme uses a mix of speed tables and cushions. We feel that speed cushions do not slow traffic down and cause contention for road space so we are asking for speed tables to be used throughout. Another positive effect could be that rat-running is reduced in Jutsums Lane which has caused problems for cyclists where cars turn into it from London Road. HAVERING CYCLING OFFICER Council leader Roger Ramsey has replied to Ray's letter saying that the post is in the process of being filled. RIDE LEADER TRAINING We have one place to fill on the Ride Leader Training on 15 August. FUNDING We have decided that this year we will not return our LCC funding entitlement to Head Office as usual but will try to use the cash to good effect locally. Ideas include a signwritten cargo bike (if only we had somewhere to keep it) or a cargo trailer, local advertising on topics such as driver awareness, benefits of cycling and the purchase of waterproof leaflet holders. EVENTS The Feeder ride from Gidea Park to the Ride London event was the biggest ever with almost 30 riders and the day was a great success, helped by the glorious weather. The programme of Sustrans rides from local schools is complete for now. We have an offer to share a stand at the Havering Show with the Over 50s Group. We also plan to support event by the Safer Transport Team on 28 August. Terry will provide more goody bags for the participants. Date Of Next Meeting is planned for MONDAY 8 September at JJ Moons PH in High Street Hornchurch. As always, see the web site at www.haveringcyclists.org for the latest news. Please feel free to add or correct my notes as appropriate. Terry
