Dear Fellow Cyclists, Here are notes from our campaign meeting on 10 August. NCN ANNIVERSARY RIDE The NCN ride on Sunday 19th July was considered a success with good weather and a good turnout. RIDE LONDON FEEDER RIDE This year's Ride London feeder ride was also a success with around 30 riders starting from Havering, picking up more at Barking. Again we were lucky with the weather and we used routes along the River Thames East of Tower Bridge which were new to many of us. SPACE FOR CYCLING As agreed, we arranged a meeting to hand over the petition to Cllr Benham but in the event, the Mayor, Cllr Eagling happened to be passing and was happy to take part in receiving the petition. We had sent a press release and so a picture of The Mayor and Cllr Benham with us and the cargo bike appeared in the Recorder and we gained some good publicity for our cause. In the meeting that followed, we discussed how we might work with the council and the new Cycling Officer to meet our shared goals. We agreed that we would help organise the Mayor's Charity Bike Ride in the Spring of next year. GUEST APPEARANCE We were pleased to welcome Jeremy Tranter from Sustrans who is our new Bike-It officer and will be working with schools in Havering and Redbridge. Jeremy has recently moved to the area. SAFER TRANSPORT TEAM FUN DAY We hope to be able to support this event planned for the 27 August. Any volunteers would be welcome. HAVERING TOWN SHOW We have been invited to support the Town Show and hope to attend with the cargo bike on at least one of the two days. Please get in touch if you would like to help. INGREBOURNE VALLEY VISITOR CENTRE OPENING The opening ceremony is planned for 4 October and we plan to support it. We hope that this will be an ideal place to stop on shorter rides on Route 136. WINDMILL RIDE The ride for local schools that was previously planned for June is now planned for 14th October. We still have misgivings on the logistics of having children making their way to and from the Windmill across St Marys Lane. HAVERING CYCLISTS AGM A reminder that our AGM will take place on 12 October. Refreshments will be provided! ACTIONS OUTSTANDING We were told that Bridge Avenue (on Route 136) was to be the subject of checks with a speed gun by police in an attempt to clamp down on speeding rat-runners. Terry reported no evidence of this and will check what has happened. Terry has discovered that there is cycle access to the Queens Hospital site but it is well hidden. Terry to approach the hospital with a view to signage and guidance on their web site. Date Of Next Meeting is planned for MONDAY 14 September at JJ Moons PH in High Street Hornchurch. (Just look out for the table where the people are wearing red LCC or Sustrans tee shirts). As always, see the web site at www.haveringcyclists.org for the latest news. Please feel free to add or correct my notes as appropriate. Regards Terry
