Dear Fellow Cyclists, Please see below notes from our campaign meeting from the 8th February. CLG REPORT An extended CLG took place this month where we agreed priorities to apply to the Cycling Wish List. 1) Cycling Hubs (Romford) and Nodes: (Upminster, Hornchurch, Rainham, Harold Hill, Collier Row and Elm Park. 2) Primary Roads 3) Quiet Ways Road improvements: • The junction of Eastern Road and Mercury Gardens is to have an improved crossing. • The scheme for the junction of Main Road and Brentwood Road was approved last week. • A new scheme and cycle track is planned for the link between St Edwards Way to Angel Way. Havering's Cycle Maintenance classes will continue this year. C2C is working to promote cycling to their stations Little progress has been made on cycle access to Queens hospital but council officers will visit the site to assess what signage could be provided to guide cyclists safely to the hospital site. EVENTS We discussed in detail the possible route that the Mayor's Charity Bike Ride planned for 24th April would take. If it is to be starting at the Town Hall, then it will go from there via Harrow Lodge Park, Elm Park, the Beam Bridge and Mardyke to Rainham Hall and return via route 136. If it does not have to start at the Town Hall then we can arrange it as a an off-road family ride in Hornchurch Country Park. Jeff will consult with the Mayor. We also have a place reserved at International Womens' Day on 12th March and the regular monthly Mark-It events in Romford Market. MATERIALS Ray had checked stock in hand and we need more Route 136 maps (4 boxes), LCC leaflets, bike security lealets and more TfL maps, but these will wait until the next issue. We now have plenty of white bags with the HCC logo. FRIENDS OF HORNCHURCH COUNTRY PARK Suggestions for activities were the setting up of family rides, doctor bike stalls and the provision of an outside drinking water tap outside the Visitor Centre. NEXT MEETING Our next meeting is planned for 8th March at JJ Moons PH in High Street Hornchurch. (Just look out for the table where the people are wearing red LCC or Sustrans tee shirts). As always, see the web site at www.haveringcyclists.org for the latest news. Regards Terry
