Dear Colleagues, Some notes from our meeting last Wednesday evening. From the December meeting the topics doscussed were the Christmas ride final preparations, the move of the campaign meetings back to Wednesdays and further discussions on the Romford Ring Road proposals. RONEO CORNER Jeff attended the Highways Advisory Committee to speak in favour of Option 3 but the conservative majority had the whole scheme rejected out of hand. We resolved to take this further with a letter to the press, the council and to Boris Johnson. - Philip to check that this will not compromise the council officers in any way. - Ray to draft letter. Havering Council CLG 1) Mark Philpots had put forward two proposals for junction improvement - North Street/A12 and Main Road and Upper Brentwood Road. 2) The Havering Skyrides will go ahead and we are seeking ride leaders. Schedule to be advised. 3) More cycle parking is to be added at the Brewery. 4) Biking Boroughs - the idea of extending the Barclay Hire scheme to Romford is still being considered. 5) LIP funding of £2.4m has been agreed for this year. 6) The Collier Row - Harold Hill route will be discussed at the next CLG. CHRISTMAS RIDE The ride was well attended and considered a success publicising parts of the new off-road route across the marshes from Rainham Station to the River Thames. LEAFLETS We need to be designing a new local leaflet as our current stocks diminish (Terry). We would like to obtain some of the Romford Cycling maps for distribution (Ray). INGREBOURNE VALLEY WAY Sustrans will be organising events to celebrate the opening in March. We will work with them and Skyride rather than organise anything separately. WEBSITE Our website has been rebuilt and members now have rights to enter items in the Blog. MARKIT EVENTS The next stall will be on Saturday 2 February in Romford market. Date of Next Meeting The next meeting is planned for WEDNESDAY 20 January at 8.00 pm outside the NALGO club (AKA Havering Staff Social Club). As always, see the web site at www.haveringcyclists.org for the latest news. Please feel free to add or correct my notes as appropriate. Best regards Terry
