Dear All, Some notes from our meeting on 15 January. HAVERING_ATTE_BOWER TRAFFIC CALMING Philip reported that Council officers had called a meeting of the interested parties to try to resolve the deadlock - they were the horseriders, Havering-Atte-Bower Heritage and Havering Cyclists. Three alternatives were proposed: 1) Removing the pinch points in favour of speed humps, 2) Changing the pinch points to half-road width and 3) Amending the current scheme in line with our suggestions. All three schemes had objections and the deadlock continues but Philip will try to suggest further amendments. TRAFFIC PLANNING CHANGES Ray has asked for our group mailbox to be added to the circulation list for all planning notifications. CYCLE CROSSRAIL Ray has written to LCC asking that Havering be included and the request has been sent to the LCC Campaigns committee. It is nonsensical that the route billed as Crossrail for cyclists should start at Hillingdon in the West but only come as far East as Barking. Correspondence has been exchanged and we need to gather a case together to support it. LOCAL ELECTIONS 2014 There is a Campaign workshop at LCC HQ on 18 January. Ray or Terry were planning to attend but in the event, it appears that it was a training event. Meanwhile, we need to agree our ask for each ward . Ray has the survey results which we can transpose onto the wards and write up. Ray will review the results and circulate for comment and agreement. NOTE: RAY HAS ALREADY SENT THIS. Please respond with your comments as soon as you can. Jeff also suggests putting together a case for supporting cycling to send to all the key political figures of each party who are likely to be in office following the local elections, mindful of the fact that the LCC's campaign depends on having email addresses for prospective candidates which they are not obliged to publicise. Terry to draft. EVENTS The next Mark-It event in Romford Market, is on 6 Jan 2014. We will be supporting International Womens' Day on Saturday 8th March at Ardleigh Green College. Please get in touch if you are able to help man the stall for a spell. Ray has booked the table for the event. LINKS WITH LOCAL GROUPS Local cyclist and runner, Keith Penfold pointed out that runners and cyclists often have aligned interests and suggested co-operation between the groups. It was agreed that we should wherever possible. MERCHANDISING Ray will be ordering more materials from Sustrans. Addendum: Terry has purchased a quantity of white paper "goody bags" onto which we can attach our logo and hand out from our leaflet stalls. DONM is planned for 19 February at the Chequers PH in North Street. As always, see the web site at www.haveringcyclists.org for the latest news. Please feel free to add or correct my notes as appropriate. Terry
