Dear Colleagues, Some notes from our last meeting on 17 July. Note that for our August meeting, if we stick to our regular 3rd Wednesday, I'll miss it as I'm away. Can I ask who else plans to attend on the 21st? NOTES: CLG REPORT: There is £100k set aside for snagging on the route 136 Ingrebourne Valley Way, £50k for cycle training and a further £50k for cycle parking. Borough cycling fund bids: There is a possibility of a route along the East side of the Rom Valley. Jeff and Ray will ride it and take photographs - there may be Sustrans funding available. Ray will follow up with Philip C regarding the HAC presentation and Governance Committee report on the plan to create a Borough Cycling Champion. BEAUTY AND THE BIKE Tonia from Sustrans had been in touch raising the possibility of a second stall at the event on 11 August. Terry is to write to her to let her know our plans. CYCLE ROUTES UPDATE A study is being undertaken of the section of the A124 from Hornchurch to Bell Corner, Upminster. Mark P has plans to introduce a short segregated link in Park Lane at the traffic signals for Hornchurch Road. This is because mototrists invariably intrude on the existing painted-on lanes. There are now 20 cycle stands at Gidea Park Station. EVENTS The Harold Hill festival was seen as a success with the flags, the Gazebo and a good selection of flags balloons and leaflets bringing a lot of interest. It has to be said that John Cox did a great job of engaging the public and getting the cycling message across. We have the Ride-London event and the Mark-it stall both on 3rd August. Terry will send a note out clarifying who is supporting which. MATERIALS We need more flags and it was also suggested that we obtain some HCC branded carrier bags. DONM is tentatively planned for 21 August at the Chequers PH in North Street. As always, see the web site at www.haveringcyclists.org for the latest news. Please feel free to add or correct my notes as appropriate. Best regards Terry
