Dear Fellow Cyclists, Here are notes from our campaign meeting on 13 July. CLG REPORT - We have a new borough Cycling Officer: John Lynn starts next Monday. -In response to questions arising, Mark Philpot confirms that he is using the latest version of the London Cycle Planning Guide. -New gates have been installed at the rear of Romford Central Library and there is concern that it blocks cycle and disabled access. MP is looking into it. -One of the first things our new Cycling Officer will be asked to do is to review and circulate the Cycle Facilities Wishlist. -Quietways are NOT being funded in Havering this year. -Cycle maintenance classes are continuing until November this year. -More ideas are needed for new locations for cycle parking. -The Skyrides are expected to end at the end of 2016 but it is hoped another sponsor will step in. -Cycle training will be available during the school holidays. -Joint cycle route investigation rides are to resume. -Beam Bridge will officially open in October. NCN ANNIVERSARY RIDE Final arrangements were made for the 20th anniversary ride for the NCN on Sunday 19th July. Jeff is expecting a stencil kit to arrive any day to mark key points on the route. John and Jeff had also undertaken some foliage control measures [but in the event were able to engage a man from Viola with a tractor]. RIDE LONDON FEEDER RIDE We now have five marshals for the ride starting at 9.00 from Gidea Park to Leadenhall Market on 1st August calling at Barking to collect more riders and returning at 3.00pm. A pre-ride has been organised for 30/7/15. SPACE FOR CYCLING Terry to approach the Council Leader Roger Ramsey to a meeting to hand over the petition, to explain our objectives and explore how we might work with the council to meet our shared goals. Ray will bring the cargo bike and Terry will notify the local press. MATTERS ARISING At the previous CLG we were told that Bridge Avenue (on Route 136) was to be the subject of checks with a speed gun by police in an attempt to clamp down on speeding rat-runners. Terry reported no evidence of this and will check what has happened. HAVERING CYCLISTS AGM We to hold our AGM and nominate/elect officers at our October meeting. Refreshments will be provided! QUEENS HOSPITAL CYCLE ACCESS Terry has discovered that there is cycle access to the site but it is well hidden. Terry to approach the hospital with a view to signage and guidance on their web site. Date Of Next Meeting is planned for MONDAY 10 August at JJ Moons PH in High Street Hornchurch. (Just look out for the table where the people are wearing red LCC or Sustrans tee shirts). As always, see the web site at www.haveringcyclists.org for the latest news. Please feel free to add or correct my notes as appropriate. Regards Terry
