Dear Fellow Cyclists, Please see below notes from our campaign meeting from the 27th July. LONDON FREECYCLE 2016 Final planning was done for leading the feeder ride to the 2016 London Freecycle on 30 July. We have 8 ride leaders or marshals and 64 registered riders from Gidea Park and Barking. Ray reported that T-shirts and tabards are expected to arrive before the day and we agreed a minor change to the route to avoid having to dismount through the Tower of London. OTHER EVENTS Upcoming events are the regular Mark-it event in Romford on August 6th and the Safer Transport Team's Funday in Hornchurch Country Park on August 11th. Any help would be gratefully received - please get in touch. LIBRARY GATES VICTORY We are pleased to say that the gates which were illegally installed beside Romford Library have been replaced with cycle-friendly moving bollards. Well done to Ray for taking this up. MATTERS ARISING • The path forming part of the Ingrebourne Way in Page's Wood has been washed away by heavy rain. Terry had reported this to the Forestry Commission and warning signs have been erected. Terry will follow up to find out when repairs are planned. • Ray will speak to John Lynn regarding a similar issue in Dagnam Park which is under council control. • We had raised the issue of cycle access to and from Queens Hospital and have been told that progress has been made. Terry will visit and report back. • Ray is still to speak to TfL regarding the secure cycle parking at Romford Station which has fallen into disuse. • Jeff has made a bid for funding for bike storage at the country park visitor centre. This would be for use by voluntary groups. • Ray will contact Sustrans to find out what is happening with their local groups liaison. SCHOOL CYCLE CLUBS Jeff has taken steps to set up bike clubs at Mead and Broadford schools with Phil Mylea (through TfL) and is also trying to organise some cycle maintenance classes. CYCLE LIAISON GROUP (CLG) The Cycle Liaison Group meeting is where the council meets with local cyclists and representatives to discuss cycling issues and developments that will affect cyclists. It takes place every 2-3 months typically on a Monday afternoon at the Town Hall and if you would like to be invited along, please get in touch. NEXT MEETINGS Note that due to summer holidays, there is no meeting in August so our next meeting is planned for Monday 11th September at JJ Moons PH in High Street Hornchurch. Just look out for the table where people (or at least one person) are wearing red LCC or Sustrans tee shirts. Also, our AGM is planned for 9 October. As always, see the web site at www.haveringcyclists.org for the latest news. Regards Terry
