Dear Fellow Cyclists, Here are notes from our campaign meeting on 9th March. CLG REPORT • The review of the signage on route 136 has now taken place and we await the report. • Changes to the by-laws to permit cycling in the sections of parks used by route 136 are still in progress. • The council is continuing to support the Mark-it events and 1000 puncture repair kits have been purchased to give away and a further lock demonstration kit has been ordered. • Over 1000 residents have now signed up to receive the council's Cycle News e-newsletter. • Route improvements under review this month are Eastern Road - Mercury Gardens and Exchange Street - Waterloo Road. • Eighty parking stands have been delivered - PLEASE COME FORWARD WITH YOUR SUGGESTIONS FOR WHERE TO PLACE THEM. • Six new fixed bicycle pumps are being installed at railway stations. • Local Skyrides are expected to start again soon and there is a meeting later this week to discuss. • The Cycling Officer post remains unfilled - Jeff will make Sustrans aware. CARGO BIKE The cargo bike was collected as planned and used to good effect at the International Womens' Day event where we had a steady stream of enquiries through the day and collected lots of signatures on our Space for Cycling petition. We are currently producing the artwork to sign-write the box. SPACE FOR CYCLING We have made good progress but we need many more signatures to make an impact - we set a target of 500. We also need to consider how long the petition will stay open and how to go about presenting it to the council. We all need to take petition sheets to any and all events, clubs, societies and places of work. This is a great opportunity to make a difference. MATERIALS Ray will obtain more GLA Cycling Guides. We also need more goody bags (plastic?), flags and stickers - Terry to investigate. NCN RIDE The 20th anniversary ride for the NCN is planned for Sunday 19th July. Ray to get route approval and Jeff to organise some publicity - ideally via council channels. It was agreed that the ride will follow the whole of route 136 starting at Noak Hill and ending at the Thames with an added excursion to the RSPB. There will be stages so that people can join en-route. OTHER RIDES We will be supporting the Bike-It childrens' ride on 24 June. There are also still plans to hold a ride to mark the opening of the Hornchurch Country Park Visitor Centre in September but this is to be confirmed. Date Of Next Meeting is planned for MONDAY 12 April at JJ Moons PH in High Street Hornchurch. (Just look out for the table showing the red Space For Cycling flags). As always, see the web site at www.haveringcyclists.org for the latest news. Please feel free to add or correct my notes as appropriate. Regards Terry
