Dear Colleagues, Some notes from our last meeting on 15 May. "MAYOR'S VISION" MEETING REPORT The Mayor's Vision meeting on 30 April at Romford Town Hall proposed that only Upminster be the targeted for "Dutch-style" treatment given the political climate at the Town Hall. We are disappointed that we are not aiming for a borough-wide approach but pleased that our other ideas have been included. Philip C will write to Amandeep to determine the borough's position on HGVs as this is a prerequisite for the bidding process. We need to work at building public interest in cycling so Terry will draft some templates for people to use to write to their own councillors and the local press. INGREBOURNE VALLEY WAY We will support the formal opening event on 22 May with a ride from each end of the route planned to arrive for the opening ceremony. Jeff will lead the one from the South and Ray will lead the one from the North. Jeff's made up some leaflets publicising the ride and these have been distributed. HAROLD HILL FESTIVAL We are still planning to support the event on 6 July with an information stall. Ray reports that the table hire will cost £10. MATERIALS The Gazebo has been delivered and we need to test it. Ray is looking into bike-trailers that we could use to transport it. Ray is also checking with the manager of Romford Market that we can use it at our Mark-it events. BIKE RECYCLING Jeff has made contact with the manager of the Motorvations workshop in Crowe Lane. He will organise a visit because as well as our interest in bike recycling, we are considering possible venues for cycle maintenance events. PEDALLING INTO THE PAST We are still planning to support the event on 11 August with an information stall. NEW VENUE FOR CAMPAIGN MEETINGS From this month we have started to use the Chequers PH in North Street. Although a little noisy due to there being a big football match on the night, the pub manager made us very welcome and I hope we can continue to meet there. DONM is 19 June at the Chequers PH in North Street. As always, see the web site at www.haveringcyclists.org for the latest news. Please feel free to add or correct my notes as appropriate. Best regards Terry
