Dear Fellow Cyclists, Please see below notes from our campaign meeting from the 9th November. AGENDA ITEMS TO TAKE TO THE CLG NEXT WEEK Progress on the gates at Romford Library The signage and section ownership of Route 136 Progress on speeding vehicles through the traffic calming pinch-points in Bridge Avenue Progress on cycle access to Queens Hospital Progress on suggestion on shoppers’ car parking bay restrictions Progress on cycling presentation to Councillors MATTERS ARISING The Council now has three new smoothie bikes which can be used for forthcoming events The YMCA have offered to host cycle maintenance classes The bridge over the River Ingreboune in Gaynes Parkway is now repaired ROUTE 136 SIGNAGE Jeff has now received a report detailing what needs to be done but it does not give any dates. We also need to identify who is responsible for which section so that we know who to report issues to. We have been asking this for some time and we need to move forwards. BEAM BRIDGE OPENING The Beam Bridge and Portrait Bench opening was on 20 October and was a success. The three figures for the portrait bench were popular musician and local figure Billy Bragg, a figure to represent the machinists whose strike at Fords in 1968 led to the Equal Pay Act and Elm Park solider, Ian Fisher of the 3rd Mercian Regiment, who gave his life while serving in Afghanistan in 2013. CYCLE SCHEME FUNDING BID We were unsuccessful in our bid for funding for a Doctor Bike to support the Mark-It events for the next 3 years. MAYOR’S CHARITY BIKE RIDE Ray is to work on the route to start from the Town Hall and take in Rainham Hall, and Route 136 as far as Harold Wood. We are looking to launch this as a Sustrans ride so that we can get the riders to register on the web site and donate to the charity which is First Steps. Jeff will check with the Safer transport team on the possibility of a temporary road closure on the Ring Road as we set off. Terry will look into what facilities exist for on-line donations to the charity. MATERIALS Terry has obtained branded HCC stickers for our goody bags. NEXT MEETING Our next meeting is planned for 14th December at JJ Moons PH in High Street Hornchurch. (Just look out for the table where the people are wearing red LCC or Sustrans tee shirts). As always, see the web site at www.haveringcyclists.org for the latest news. Please feel free to add or correct my notes as appropriate. Regards Terry
