Dear Colleagues, Some notes from our meeting on Wednesday evening. MARK-IT EVENTS The Mark-It event on September 1st went very well despite us not having a table - The Police kindly allowed us to share theirs. The next event is on Saturday 6th October in Romford Market. The Police tell us that they intend to continue these events through the winter. PEDALLING INTO THE PAST - 15 September in Hornchurch Country Park The weather was very kind to us on the day. The LCC and Sustrans stands were both well supported by our volunteers and well attended by the public. The Sustrans stand featured a pedal-powered smoothie maker which proved very popular. The LCC stand attracted visitors with our new Havering Cyclists flag (with LCC branding) and as well as giving maps, leaflets and advice, we also collected improvement suggestions which will be shared with the CLG. Other attractions included cycle polo, a BMX stunt display, stands for Dr Bike and one for trying out different types of bikes, an area to try out circus skills and a selection of local history groups relating to RAF Hornchurch. The highlight for most was a fly-past by the last airworthy Lancaster bomber which gave us a good view by circling low overhead and letting us experience the roar of its four Merlin engines. CLG Ray reported that: 1) Ray has agreed to undertake an audit of the signage through central Romford. 2) Roneo Corner: There were three options presented. The favourite is to close off and pedestrianise the junction of Upper Rainham Road and Hornchurch Road and make the one-way link from Hornchurch Road around the rear of Clarks Carpets a single two-way link. A traffic study will now be undertaken. 3) Havering Skyrides: No commitment has been given by the council on supporting these for next year. 4) Wingletye Lane/A127 dropped kerb issue: Ray has site meeting arranged with Musood. LCC POLICY FORUM Ray reported back from the LCC Policy meeting at Southbank University ththat the campaigning themes will be 1) "Share the Road, Share the Greenway" and 2) TBA but probably "Justice". Dave reported that the LCC is ken to start organising by ward to get more people involved and that one of the key objectives is to get children cycling to school. Date of Next Meeting The next neeting is planned for 17 October at 8.00 pm outside the NALGO club (AKA Havering Staff Social Club). As always, see the web site at www.haveringcyclists.org for the latest news. Please feel free to add or correct my notes as appropriate. Best regards Terry
