Brentwood Walking & Cycling Consultation

Regular readers will have already seen our post last month about this consultation for all Essex including Brentwood but here are the views of Cycle Brentwood that you might want to consider.

The consultation runs until the 29th September so this is your chance to have your say about whether the routes provide the right local links, whether there are any important routes not shown or whether there any secondary routes that should be a primary ones.

Trailnet and Cycle Brentwood have already provided input into this process and have identified some areas that they feel need improvement.

You’ll have your own opinions, but they think that the biggest issues are:

  1. The reliance on main/busy roads such as Chelmsford Road, Childerditch Lane and Ongar Road as primary routes. These will require significant work to provide segregated cycle lanes, with the commensurate costs and disruption.
  2. A failure to utilise Thorndon Country Park as a conduit for cycle paths from the east and south of the borough.
  3. No provision for a crossing of the A127 to provide a safe link to West Horndon and the major new housing development at Dunton Hills Garden Village.
  4. The assumption that any cycle route can safely cross Wilson’s Corner, when there are alternatives that can bypass this junction.

Unfortunately, the survey offers limited opportunity for specific comments, but you can add your own route preferences, so can suggest alternatives relating to 2, 3 & 4 above.

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO COMPLETE THE SURVEY AS IT COULD BE YOUR ONLY CHANCE TO INFLUENCE WALKING & CYCLE ROUTES IN BRENTWOOD FOR SEVERAL YEARS
