How about an active start to the summer holidays?
Our friends at Cycleconfident have organised two led bikes rides (almost completely traffic free) on Saturday 22 July.
The rides are designed to suit cycling families or those wanting to explore a little further on their bikes with children from the age of as young as 5 (if they are confident and have loads of energy).
Getting to the Bird Sanctuary in the Rainham Marshes is possible within an hour by the District and C2C trains from Upminster with a 15min walk/5min cycle from Purfleet Station. It takes a similar amount of time from Romford using the trains to Stratford, Jubilee to Westham and then C2C to Purfleet.
Free Parking is also available for Havering and Thurrock residents at the Rainham Marshes between 9.30am and 5pm.
Possible other joining points could be Hacton Lane Car Park and Ingrebourne Hill Car Park.
There are 15 spaces on each ride. Feel free to book onto both but only do so if you are planning to do the full nearly 30km and your children can handle being out from 10-4pm (including 2 x 15-20min breaks at the South Hornchurch Park Visitor Centre) and an hour lunch break in Upminster.
