Havering Cyclists News

Hello fellow cyclist! With summer just around the corner, we hope you’re enjoying getting out on your bike riding for work, shopping or for some exercise but meanwhile, Havering Cyclists have still been campaigning and raising local cycling issues. Please read on for details.

TWENTY’S PLENTY

We have been following the 20s Plenty campaign work going on elsewhere and we are pleased to hear that Havering council is already looking at expanding the number of 20mph zones. There is a study underway into the benefits of the existing schemes in the borough and LIP funding has been set aside to continue the work.

MARSH WAY IMPROVEMENTS

The public consultation has just closed on the plans to provide a section of segregated cycle path on Marsh Way on the railway bridge which will give much improved access to the CEME centre and surrounding industrial and further improvements are included further along Marsh Way. If all goes as planned, the work is expected to be completed by March 2026.  This is an important improvement that we have been pushing for since the tragic deaths of two cyclists in 2021.

HAROLD WOOD TO BRENTWOOD CYCLE ROUTE

As part of the M25 Junction 28 improvement plans, significant improvements are under way to link LCN12 and NCN136 eastwards along the A12 across the M25 and on to Brook Street, Brentwood.

The works along Colchester Road (pictured) are under the control of Havering council, the section that crosses the M25 is being done by National Highways and on Brook Street, by Brentwood council.

HORNCHURCH STATION PARKING

The plans to provide two secure cycle parking lockers at Hornchurch Station were amended following consultation to just one locker just south of the Station but this is expected to be installed imminently.

FAMILY FRIENDLY RIDE

In lieu of the now cancelled London Freecycle Havering Cyclists will be holding a family bike ride on 25th May to coincide with similar events taking place across all London boroughs. Please get in touch if you would like to help or to take part.

WALKING AND CYCLING BUSES

We were pleased to hear that Havering council has set up five cycling buses and six walking buses to help children to and from school. We would like to encourage more of these and await further details so that we can share the positive news.

ROMFORD MASTERPLAN

You may have seen the consultation on the Romford Masterplan which we were pleased to see had decent cycle facilities included. We are told that this has now been adopted by Havering council.

FREE CYCLE MAINTENANCE TRAINING

For another year, Havering Cyclists has teamed up with The Friends of Ingrebourne Valley and Hornchurch Country Park, TfL and YoungAgain Cycles to arrange a series of basic and advanced cycle maintenance classes.

These are proving very popular and some events are now fully booked. We hope to be able to run more next year.
